George Russell took a dominant win in the 2026 Formula 1 season-opening Australian Grand Prix, leading a Mercedes 1-2.
Russell was followed home by team-mate Kimi Antonelli, with the Mercedes pairing taking control after Ferrari chose not to stop under an early Virtual Safety Car period.
Lando Norris was fifth but trailed Lewis Hamilton by over 35-seconds. Max Verstappen recovered to sixth place, having started on the back row after crashing in Q1.
Ollie Bearman, Arvid Lindblad, Gabriel Bortoleto and Pierre Gasly completed the points-paying positions.
Oscar Piastri failed to start after crashing on his sighting lap. Nico Hulkenkerg also did not start, with a reliability issue confining him to the garage.
Aston Martin completed far more running than had been predicted in the early stages of the weekend, with Lance Stroll a classified finisher.
