Ducati’s Marc Marquez says he has been able to achieve a previously “impossible” step in the recovery of his injured shoulder ahead of the MotoGP Brazilian Grand Prix.

The reigning world champion started to the 2026 campaign still not fully fit, following the season-ending shoulder injury he suffered last October at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Despite this, he was on course to win the sprint at the Thai Grand Prix before a controversial penalty, while a podium was on the cards in the main race before he was struck by a sensational wheel failure.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, Marc Marquez says he has been able to do back-to-back motocross training sessions since Thailand, which was previously “impossible” just a few weeks ago.

“Yeah, the shoulder keeps improving,” he told the official MotoGP website on Thursday.

“It’s the first time that I was able to do two days in a row of motocross, with just one day between.

“Before Thailand, that was impossible because the pain was too much.

“But, now it looks like we are improving.

“So, I’m happy about the evolution, and I’m looking forward to riding the bike, and I’m sure that I will feel better.”

Shorter track, longer practices, “will make our lives easier”

This weekend’s return to the Ayrton Senna circuit, marking Brazil’s first MotoGP races since 2004, will see Friday’s practice sessions extended to allow the riders more time to test.

Marquez believes this will make life easier for everyone.

“It’s true that a shorter layout and longer practice will make our lives easier,” he said.

“And I think already in the Practice on [Friday] afternoon, or maybe on Saturday, everybody will know the circuit perfectly, because we will do many laps.

“So, let’s see if we can adapt our riding style well and our set-up to this new Brazilian track.”

On refocusing after Thailand, he added: “Thailand was a normal weekend. I would say I was doing a solid weekend, because I was not riding in the best way possible.

“But even like this, I was able to fight for the podium. It’s true that we know what happened.

“We can say it’s unlucky, ‘following a mistake from Marc’.

“But, in the end, it’s never happened to jump a kerb and get a flat tyre. But, it’s done. So, now I’m looking forward to here in Brazil to have a better feeling.”
