The designation of sprint victories is the main topic of discussion on this week’s Crash MotoGP Podcast, following Pedro Acosta’s maiden win in Thailand.

Pedro Acosta finally scored a maiden MotoGP race win at the Thai Grand Prix, when he took top spot in the Saturday sprint.

However, he is still officially without a win in the record books, as only grand prix victories count on the statistics.

Since sprints were introduced in 2023, the debate over how they should be noted in the history books has continued.

It was thrust into the spotlight after the Thai Grand Prix Moto2 race was declared a result after just seven laps, following red flag disruption, and then a counting error.

That still counts as a grand prix win for Manuel Gonzalez in the official statistics, yet Acosta remains winless in his MotoGP career.

In the latest Crash MotoGP Podcast, host Dre Harrison, together with Lewis Duncan and Peter McLaren, discuss this topic and how the championship should approach the subject going forward.

They also dive into the ongoing war in the Middle East and the impact this could have on MotoGP’s Qatar Grand Prix, which is due to run from 10-12 April.

On Friday, Crash.net reported that F1’s Bahrain Grand Prix - which is due to run the same weekend as Qatar - and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix are set to be officially cancelled this weekend.

Elsewhere on the show, the team discuss the footage Honda released earlier this week from its first 850cc test last December.

The clip gave us our first glimpse at what 2027 bikes could look like, as well as what we can potentially expect from the racing.
