Isle of Man TT racer Peter Hickman was involved in a terrifying crash during Daytona 200 Qualifying 2 on Friday.

The English rider crashed in spectacular fashion, after losing the front at high speed as he transitioned from the steeply banked track.

Luckily for all involved, a low-lying tyre barrier prevented him or his bike from entering the live circuit on the other side – believed to be turn six of the famous track.

Thankfully, Hickman was quick to make it to his feet, despite sliding along the Daytona circuit for what seemed like an eternity, even managing a thumbs up to the marshalls on the scene.

The fortunes of the PHR Performance team lie squarely on Hickman's shoulder this year, after his teammate, Davey Todd, was ruled out of any further participation in the event following an “incident” in Qualifying 1.

A statement from the team said: “Davey will not be participating following an incident during qualifying. As a result, he has been declared unfit to continue for the remainder of the weekend.

“Peter will be taking on the Daytona 200 solo, with the full support of the PHR crew behind him. First up Q2 and then 'Time Attack' for grid positions.”
