Marc Marquez victorious in hard fought Brazilian MotoGP Sprint
Marc Marquez beat Fabio Di Giannantonio in a tight battle for the Brazilian MotoGP Sprint win.

The 2026 Brazilian MotoGP Sprint saw Marc Marquez take his first victory of the season, beating Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Marquez made a good start from third on the grid, but it was Di Giannantonio who made the holeshot from pole.
Before the end of the first lap, Marquez had been pushed from second to third by the fast-starting Fabio Quartararo, and it took him a couple of laps to find his way back past the Frenchman.
By that time, Di Giannantonio was 0.7 seconds clear at the front, and the early signs were positive for the Italian as he continued to extend his advantage out to 1.2 seconds even with though Marquez had clear air in front of him.
As the 15-lap Sprint wore on, though, Marquez upped his pace, and with five laps to go was right on Di Giannantonio's rear wheel.
It seemed that Marquez was waiting for his chance, and that came with three laps to go as Di Giannantonio ran wide at turn 12. Marquez took advantage of the mistake to pass into turn 13, and he just held the VR46 Ducati rider off in the final two laps to secure his first MotoGP win of the season by 0.213 seconds over Di Giannantonio.
By the end, the leaders had pulled 3.5 seconds on third place, which was occupied by Jorge Martin. The 2024 champion had started fifth, behind Di Giannantonio, Marquez, Quartararo, and Marco Bezzecchi, but was able to quickly find his way through the retreating Quartararo after those in front had, and then set about Bezzecchi.
A mistake at turn nine from the winner of the last three consecutive grands prix opened the door from Martin, and he needed no second invitation. His pace was better than his Aprilia Racing teammate's, too, and he was a second clear for most of the second half of the Sprint.
Bezzecchi wasn't fast enough for the podium, but he scored more points on Saturday in Brazil than he did in Thailand when he was fast enough to win by finishing fourth.
Ai Ogura made it three Aprilias in a row behind the two leading Ducatis, while Fabio Quartararo remarkably rounded out the top-six for Yamaha.
Alex Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia, and Pedro Acosta took the final points positions. Bagnaia was the only rider in the points to have chosen the medium-compound rear tyre; the others were Raul Fernandez, Jack Miller, and Toprak Razgatlioglu, all of whom finished outside the top-10 - a top-10 rounded out by home favourite Diogo Moreira.
There were three retirements as Maverick Vinales, Johann Zarco, and Joan Mir all crashed out, the latter having been pushed wide by Raul Fernandez at turn six before folding the front on the dirtier part of the track.
The Sprint had been delayed by over an hour before the start as a result of track work taking place on the start-finish straight to repair a hole that had appeared in the track surface. Originally due to start at 15:00 local time, it was first rescheduled to 15:20, then 15:35, before finally starting at 16:20. The delays meant that Moto2 qualifying was pushed back to Sunday morning.
