Pedro Acosta carried his momentum from Thailand into Brazil by finishing as the only KTM rider inside the top 13 during a “challenging” Friday practice.

The MotoGP title leader topped the wet opening session, then secured a crucial top ten Qualifying 2 place during a high-pressure afternoon Practice.

Dodging damp patches on slick tyres, and with raindrops falling, Acosta claimed the fifth fastest lap time on a day when Thai Grand Prix winner and closest title rival Marco Bezzecchi could only manage 20th for Aprilia.

“Yeah, a really challenging day, these are the days when it’s more easy to lose than win,” Acosta told MotoGP.com. “Anyway, super nice to go directly to Q2, it’s a quite nice track also, with some super-fast sections. So, I’m quite happy about the day.”

“In these conditions, you never know and it was important to be in the front as soon as possible. It’s true that for me it took a bit more time, because there were many crashes around and all these things.

“But anyway, I think we made a good job on day one here in Brazil.”

All eyes will again be on the weather heading into Saturday’s final practice, qualifying and Sprint race.

“Missing one dry day, it will be even more a question mark,” Acosta said. “Also, let's see how the weather is, that will maybe play a game until the last moment, but [the track layout] looks quite okay for a fun race.”

Tech3’s Maverick Vinales was the next best KTM rider in 14th, with Acosta’s team-mate Brad Binder in 17th after being among those caught out at Turn 4.
