Return of key KTM MotoGP figure "a win in every respect"
Pit Beirer says Kurt Trieb’s return from Honda is "a win in every respect" as KTM pushes ahead with its 850cc MotoGP project.

MotoGP engine designer Kurt Trieb’s surprise return to KTM from Honda is “a win in every respect”, according to the Austrian factory’s motorsport director Pit Beirer.
Beirer insisted there had been no hard feelings when it was revealed that Trieb was leaving for Honda midway through the 2025 campaign.
"I can certainly be quite offended when a really good employee turns his back on KTM,” Beirer told Speedweek.com
“With Kurt, the situation was different.
“When Kurt left KTM for Honda in the summer of 2025, it wasn't just a simple career change.
“Kurt is outstanding in his field, and he rightly felt honoured when the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer asked for his support.
“It would be wrong to be angry with him for that."
However, Beirer branded Trieb’s swift return to KTM as “a win in every respect” and confirmed he will resume a leading role in development of the new 850cc engine.
“The 850 engine still bears his signature, but he wasn't there for the [track debut in December],” Beirer said.
“So far, the new engine is running very well – but it's even better to have him back on board.”
No reason has been given for Trieb's sudden return.
