LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco led Friday’s rain-affected Practice at the 2026 MotoGP Brazilian Grand Prix, with several shock names in Q1 and Q2.
MotoGP’s first track action in Brazil in 22 years was delayed by an hour after heavy overnight rain in Goiania left the Ayrton Senna circuit in need of clearing up.
Championship leader Pedro Acosta led the way in an extended FP1, which was increased from 45 minutes to an hour to allow the riders extra time to learn the track.
Due to the delay to the schedule, Friday afternoon’s Practice was cut from its original length of 75 minutes back down to 60 minutes.
With rain hanging in the air, the start to Practice was frantic, as everyone pushed to find laps that would be good enough to secure them a place in the top 10, and therefore inside Q2, should the conditions deteriorate.
The riders only managed about 30 minutes of running before the rain worsened to the point where lap time improvements became impossible.
LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco led the way in the session from reigning world champion Marc Marquez, as Toprak Razgatlioglu stunned in third.
Two Yamahas made it through to Q2 directly, with Fabio Quartararo seventh in the session.
The top 10 was notable for the absence of Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi, who struggled in the conditions and was only 20th at the chequered flag.
He will face Q1 alongside Raul Fernandez, who joined him on the podium last time out at the Thai Grand Prix.
