The first Moto2 race in Brazil was won by Daniel Munoz after losing the lead early, then coming under late pressure from Daniel Munoz.

The CFMoto Inde Aspar rider had only taken pole position in the morning after he Moto2 qualifying sessions were delayed following the hole in the track on Saturday. That saw the Spaniard move through Q1, gaining valuable track time at the new circuit for the class in Goiania.

The number 96 did not have everything his own way - lights out saw lose the lead to Alex Escrig by turn one, also falling behind Munoz after an epic launch directly up the racing line from eleventh on the grid to second.

Undeterred, Holgado found a way around Munoz on lap three at turn nine, then set out to try and form a gap. The Spaniard lead all the way until the penultimate lap where the Italtrans rider made his move.

The lead was brief, with grip at a premium Munoz ran wide, enough to allow Holgado to take back over, leading over the line by 1.226s for his third win in the class, a huge move forward from the opening day - having left the circuit 21st on Friday.

The battle for third also gave a tense final few laps. Escrig was in the position but his tyres were visibly worn on the right, leading to more caution. The Forward rider had to succumb on the final lap, with Manuel Gonzalez taking over, despite his own tyre issues on the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP bike.

Holgado’s Aspar team-mate David Alonso was second on the grid but slipped back a the start, fighting his way forward to sixth. The Colombian was only just ahead of a huge recovery rider from Izan Guevara on the Blu Cru Pramac Yamaha after hitting yellow flags in qualifying left him down the grid in 13th, finishing the top Boscoscuro in sixth.

Seventh went to Tony Arbolino, who had been fastest in the wet on Friday for Fantic, with Collin Veijer slipping back slightly for eighth on the Red Bull KTM Ajo bike.

SpeedRS rider Celestino Vietti had company for ninth, just holding off QJMotor man Ivan Ortola, who completed the top 10.

After being involved in the battle for ninth which lead to the error which saw Agel Piqueras crash out, Alons Lopez faded to 11th for Gresini, as behind Adrian Huertas made huge progress from 21st on the grid to finish 12th on the second Italtrans entry.

The remaining points went to Mario Aji in 13th for Idemitsu Hinda Team Asia, Filip Salac who was out of the top 15 for much of the race before scoring a late 14th for American Racing and Barry BAltus in 15th for Fantic Racing.

Alberto Ferrandez was the best of the rookies to finish in 17th for Blu Cru Pramac Yamaha.

Joe Roberts (18th  and Zonta van den Goorbergh (24th) both had a long lap penalty to serve, effecting their result.

Senna Agius cemented a tough weekend with 19th for Dynavolt.
