WATCH LIVE: Max Verstappen’s Mercedes race debut at the Nurburgring in NLS2

Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen makes his Mercedes race debut in his second outing at the Nurburgring today in NLS 2.

The Red Bull F1 driver made his debut at the Nurburgring last year in the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS).

That outing in September also marked Max Verstappen’s GT3 racing debut, having previously competed in the class virtually.

Campaigning with Emil Frey in a Red Bull-sponsored Ferrari, Verstappen won on his debut at the Nurburgring.

Seen as the first step towards making a maiden appearance the Nurburgring 24 Hours this year, that entry was confirmed this winter.

Part of that was being able to take part in one of the NLS rounds prior to the 24 Hours, doing so in a Mercedes.

Originally, NLS1 and NLS2 clashed with Formula 1 rounds.

However, following lobbying from Toto Wolff and Mercedes, NLS organisers moved NLS2 to the weekend of 21 March in the gap between the Chinese and Japanese Grands Prix.

He will share the No.3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Luca Auer, Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella, which he qualified on pole on Saturday morning. 

The race begins at 11am GMT and finishes at 3pm GMT, with the formation lap taking place from 10:42am GMT.
