McLaren has suffered a pre-race disaster at the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, with both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri failing to start.

McLaren first identified an electrical issue on Norris's car before the race, which prevented the reigning world champion from heading to the grid before the pit exit closed.

With McLaren unable to resolve the problem, Norris failed to make the start.

In a dramatic twist five minutes before the race start, Piastri was pushed off the grid by McLaren and back into the garage.

Like Norris, Piastri was unable to take part in the race with a different issue striking his McLaren.

The McLaren pair were set to start from fifth and sixth respectively.

That leaves the third row of the grid completely empty.

Alex Albon is also out of the race after Williams discovered a hydraulic issue on his car.
