Ferrari made a statement by setting the fastest times in pre-season both in Barcelona and Bahrain, though outright lap times in testing counting for very little and need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Perhaps the most reliable yardstick in which to judge where teams stand is mileage, and on this front it is Mercedes leading the way. The Silver Arrows enjoyed a strong pre-season and also collected the most power unit data thanks to having three customer teams in the shape of McLaren, Williams and now Alpine

While it was a good pre-season for Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton arguably heads into the new season slightly on the back foot after losing crucial track time on his final day in the SF-26 due to technical issues.

The seven-time world champion suffered from the rare reliability blips Ferrari encountered in an otherwise flawless few weeks of running. As a result, he managed 71 laps fewer than teammate Charles Leclerc

Aston Martin and Honda clearly has the most work to do after a nightmare pre-season. Aston Martin turned up to pre-season late and its AMR26 badly struggled for pace and was unreliable.

Most of Aston Martin's gremlins appeared to stem from Honda's side, with the Japanese manufacturer met with a tough start on its official full-time F1 return.

F1 now heads to Melbourne for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on 8 March.
